What is Acupuncture?

It is well-known that acupuncture has been used in China for over 3,000 years, but fewer people are aware that it has also been adopted into clinical practice by physiotherapists during the last 30 years.

The treatment involves carefully inserting delicate needles into specific points on the body’s meridians to relieve pain and other conditions. There are a number of theories about how and why acupuncture works, but the important thing here is that many people find it beneficial and side-effects are very rare. It is also an alternative therapy for conditions that have not responded well to orthodox medicine.

Why a Physiotherapist?

Chartered physiotherapists are medically qualified in anatomy and neurophysiology and, as clinicians, they are able to liaise with GPs and consultants about their patients’ progress or medical problems if necessary.

As well as being a chartered physiotherapist, Rachel Hall has taken post-graduate training in acupuncture – and so she is able to combine its practice with more orthodox treatments. She is an accredited member of Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists
